Watford, in South West Hertfordshire, is a regional shopping and entertainment centre, and is home to more than 78,000 people. The town is conveniently located near to both the M1 and M25 motorways, and the railway links allow easy access from central London and from key cities across the country. Heathrow and Luton Airports are both within 20 minutes drive of the town.
Watford's Harlequin Shopping Centre is located in a vibrant town centre that also includes a regular market at Charter Place. Work started on a multi-million pound enhancement scheme for the town centre in early 1998. This scheme has culminated in a brand new Town Square near the historic St Mary's Church.
Entertainment venues include the historic Palace Theatre, The Colosseum, The Pump House Theatre, and a wide variety of pubs, nightclubs and restaurants. To the north of the town, the Woodside Leisure Centre houses a multi-screen cinema, restaurants, ice skating, and ten-pin bowling.
Sports fans are particularly well catered for in the town, with Watford Football Club, the Saracens Rugby club (who share the Vicarage Road stadium) and the Royals Basketball Team at Watford Leisure Centre.
While the town is very conveniently located, with excellent communication facilities to and from the rest of the country, it also boasts some extremely beautiful areas of countryside. The Grand Union Canal, River Gade, Whippendell Woods and Cassiobury Park offer acres of unspoiled woodland and waterways within easy reach of the town centre. Cassiobury Park

Watford is extremely proud of its extensive and well structured voluntary sector which provides the community with a wide range of services including: a Volunteer Bureau, advice and counselling agencies, charity shops, volunteer car schemes, environment agencies, multi-cultural groups and many other self help groups to mention but a few. Shopmobility, based on the ground floor of church car park, provides wheelchairs and electric scooters on free loan to those with mobility problems to help them get out and about the town centre.
